The Meineke Car Care Center on Carlisle Street in Hanover will help you if your car is hard to start in cold weather.

It's not unusual on these freezing mornings to find your car won't start.  Of course, it generally happens when you're running late to work. Or, and this can be worse, your car refuses to start when you've come out of a late-night event. You're just looking forward to a warm bed and instead, you find yourself sitting stranded in a cold, dark parking lot.

"Cars don't like the cold. Frigid temperatures weaken batteries, but they also affect other automotive systems that can keep an engine from starting," according to the familyhandyman.com.

The most common reasons, according to familyhandyman.com, you may find yourself waiting in the cold for a tow or a good Samaritan: dead battery, thick motor oil, frozen fuel system, defective engine sensors, or a problem with your alternator or starter motor.

The best way to avoid the problem, familyhandyman.com says, is to keep your car in a heated garage. Otherwise, "winterizing your car is the best protection against being stranded. ... service your car, change or flush your vehicle's fluids, check all filters and make sure the heater and defrosters are working properly. Replace wiper squeegees and check that the battery, ignition, charging and starting systems are all in good shape before bitter cold weather sets in."

The easiest way to do that is to have the Hanover car care technicians at the Meineke Car Care Center on Carlisle Street do the checking. That way, if they find something, they can go ahead and fix it right that moment.
