It's a bad experience many of us have been through; we come out of a restaurant after a relaxing meal only to find our car won't start.

Most of the time we blame the battery. And we would be right.

But there are many possible causes that would cause a car to die.

Nationwide.com lists a few: your alternator, which Nationwide says goes hand in hand with a dead battery, and a bad starter.

Other possibilities include a bad ignition switch, spark plugs, or distributor cap. The distributor  cap sends the power to the spark plugs, enabling them to fire and supply the engine with energy.  Other indicators of a broken distributor cap are a misfiring engine and funny noises.

A bad timing belt or a jammed steering lock could also prevent your car's starting. As could a clogged fuel filter or, of course, an empty fuel tank.

Knowing what the problem is, is the first step to solving the issue and getting you back on the road. Whatever the problem, the Meineke Car Care Center on Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg is the place to start. The ASE certified mechanics at Meineke will get the car running again.

If that location is inconvenient, you can get the same reliable car care service at one of Meineke's other 12 car care centers in south central Pennsylvania.
