What to do when your prized car goes into hibernation and you pull out the ol' clunker.

Some car owners take a look at the hazardous driving on slick, icy roads and decide to protect their precious (high-end) rides by parking the vehicle for the winter. Then, those owners use a beaten up, aging model to get them through the winter, putting their prized car in hibernation.

If you're one of those drivers, then you're getting ready to get the engine on your "ol' faithful" car re-started.

But did you know there is a proper way to re-start an engine that has been dormant?

The experts at Meineke suggest the following to ensure that your car is ready to hit the road.

  • Make sure the car has oil and other fluids and to ensure they are in good condition.
  • Be sure there is no water contamination.
  • Check the radiator and hoses for leaks.
  • Make sure you have a spare battery or battery charger.
  • Make sure the distributor is in the correct position.

Now you are almost ready to get your engine started.

If the whole process sounds like a bit much, you can short circuit it by having the auto repair gurus at the Meineke Car Care Center on Pleasant View Road in New Cumberland do the work. If the New Cumberland location is inconvenient, you can get the same reliable auto repair at any of the other 12 Meineke Car Care Centers in south central Pennsylvania.
